Daddy Travel Tips

During our recent vacation I discovered a few tips to help make life easier while in a hotel and traveling with a baby.

1. Get a first floor hotel room

This never occurred to me before having a kid as we usually only had about 2 things of luggage and a few extra items.  We were carrying many loose baby items and it made for many trips up and down the stairs and elevator.   One option you have is to use the luggage carrier at the hotel but that doesn’t work well when you do have those loose items.

2. Use the hotels crib

We took the pack-and-play and while that was great for the chipmunk it took up alot of room in our little Toyota Corolla.   While most family’s don’t drive the small cars, we do, and so all the space we can get is a must.   Concerned about bed bugs there is a nice little web site called the Bed Bug Registry that you can look up to see if you have anything to worry about there.

3. Just plain wear the baby out

As I have mentioned before this was one of our longest road trips yet.  We were alittle concerned about the trip home.  But this was good because he woke up at 7:30am lasted through church and the graduation with little problems.  Since the chipmunk hadn’t slept at the reception we could tell that he was getting tired as he was getting very fussy.  So we immediately left knowing that we had a small window of time to make it on the road before disater hit.   We left and he went right to sleep and slept the whole way home.  It was incredible!

4. The pool is a must

The chipmunk really enjoyed the pool.  This also gave us some time to play with him and some time to just ourselves as a family.  It was really nice.  For any age the hotel must have a pool .

5. If visiting family let them watch the little one

Letting my family watch the little one so that my wife and I weren’t holding the chipmunk all the time was awesome! They enjoyed it because this was the first time that many of my family members were getting to see him.  This also gave us some much needed time to just relax.
While this list maybe short and will only grow in a couple of months when we take a week long vacation these are just some of the sentential tips that I found this trip that worked for the chipmunk.  Some of these may night work for all of you.

Great tips. I especially like and totally agree with number 1 and 4. I may put together a similar post, great idea.

The first one I really wish I would have thought of before going on this trip. We even took our pack and play and I had to lug that up three flights of stairs. Not fun!

Great tips for traveling with little ones! Those days were always a bit stressful but seemed to go much more smoothly when well planned in advance. Traveling with twins was an adventure! 🙂

We made plans and stuck to them and it worked! We did everything we wanted to do also. We left when we said we would leave and made it back sooner then we thought! I don’t think our trip in August however will be that easy.

a word of warning on hotel cribs…they are usually pretty small and if you have giant children like I do, they don’t fit! other than that, all of your suggestions are gerat! A pool is a must- not only is it fun, it wears them out!
