The great thing about running, is that you do not have to invest a whole lot. All you need is shoes, athletic shorts, and a shirt. Unless you want to run naked, and if you are from Topeka, Kansas I hear public nudity is not against the law.
But the single most important item you will purchase as a runner will be your shoes.
Before I started taking running seriously, I thought shoes where just that shoes. This is coming from a cross country runner too! You would have thought that I would have learned back then but I didn’t.
It wasn’t until I started to experience some knee pain that I decided ion a whim it might be time to get a new set of shoes. Out of no where the knee pain stopped and I was breaking PRs on just about every run.
I do contribute a lot of that to my shoes. I went to an actual running store and went through the entire process of being fit for them. They checked my pronation and had me run on a treadmill to see if they were the right shoes for me.
What shoes did I end up with?
My pink… yes pink Mizuno Wave Riders.
I loved the shoes so much that I even bought a second pair.
If you plan on doing any sort of running for any extended period of time, I recommend going to your local running store and get properly fitted for a pair of shoes.
Trust me your feet will appreciate it!
Amen!! I’ve upped my running distances and finally invested in real running shoes from x-trainers – made a huge difference.
Yeah it was interesting the moment I put on my new shoes. It took a bit to break them in and my feet hurt for about 2 runs but that was my feet adjusting to the right shoes and it was all over after that. The motivation was there everyday knowing I spent so much on those shoes.
No doubt shoes make all the difference. To those that tell me they tried running or just can’t b/c their knees bother them, the first thing I ask is about their shoes and running form. Get those 2 things right, and the majority of people’s “issues” will go away. Glad you found a good fit, and love the pink!
