I wish that I could say that my wife and I would be able to enjoy a nice night out this Valentine’s Day in Kansas City. However due to some financial reasons, like doctor bills that keep piling up for a baby that isn’t even born, we won’t be able to enjoy what has become one of our favorite date nights of the year.
Cafe Trio and the Plaza.
My wife introduced me to this restaurant while we were dating. In fact, it was when they were in a small location along Main Street in Kansas City. I had never been to a restaurant this fancy unless you call White Castle fancy, which it could be for some. But from the moment I walked in I could tell this was going to be a place I enjoyed.
I can’t remember what I ordered that first time but I can say that whatever it was, has us making our Valentine’s Day reservations well in advance… most on a night other than the 14th, so it isn’t too busy and we are not forced into an overpriced menu for the evening as with most restaurants. Try the Grilled Chop it is delicious and my wife’s personal favorite is always the Scallops, it doesn’t matter how they do it, they make their scallops right she says.
Since our first visit though, Cafe Trio has moved to a Plaza location which makes a date night that much better. We are able sit out on their heated patio and look over the Plaza and enjoy a signature cocktail or two. I leave the cocktail to my wife and enjoy a locally brewed Boulevard Wheat.
Next take a stroll along the Country Club Plaza. It’s right next door and you’ll be among many other lovebirds walking among the shops having a cup of coffee or reading together at Barnes and Noble or go take your picture proposing to your significant other in front of the JC Nichols Fountain.
Both of these are a pastime that my wife and I enjoy and would recommend to anyone looking for a great Valentine’s Day in Kansas City, specially parents who are looking to get away for the evening and enjoy each other presence. Unfortunately we won’t be able to enjoy it this year so feel free to take our table at Cafe Trio.
